lizards are lee forster (1/3 last waltz) and james hadfield (the mainstay of the elizabeth collective). taking over a full side, and clocking in at over 9 minutes, anthemic understatement is a very difficult trick to pull of, but the deepness of feel here, coupled with the restraint shown in rhythm and melody, allows the track space to ebb, flow and truly get under the skin of the listener. it s one of those rare tracks that are as equally beautiful as they are danceable international track lives up to it s name, seeing the north eastern english producers channel the japanese take on the balearic sound as heard in productions by artists such as cosmes.

africa is not a country. we in the west often refer to african music but what is that exactly? it could be myriad, almost unimaginably different forms of music that bear little relation to each other, as after all africa is a vast continent that is larger than the united states, australia and the whole of europe combined. these four tracks showcase some of those different forms of music from across the continent. there is some cosmic synth drenched proto-house, an afro-beat call to arms, a hypnotic juju workout and a rough and ready, relentless lo fi west african banger. all proceeds will go to human rights justice group, nigeria.

the second chapter of the startup label series starts with the dreamy * oaas*. its gravitating ambient body music picks up right where startup label 1 left off. the sparkling dust of quarry_s has settled, and mutates into a liquid morphing bass drizzle. moving on to �found_weaver� the hazy synths find a more rhythmical form accompanied by a staccato groove. when the record is flipped a new world gets exposed on the track * wolf*. a more consistent and articulate track with a killer groove. startup label 2 explores the musical map of clubland travelling further than the dance floor, not afraid of venturing behind the * here be dragons* signpost.

after the debut release on do not sleep become a sure fire club hit, the ibiza party turned much loved house and tech label now has another weapon up its sleeve. the next release is from perel, is titled charles manson and features another standout remix from resident darius syrossian. perel is a berlin based dj, producer and vocalist who is quickly rising through the ranks. she has released both originals and remixes on o*rs before now, and has a robust house and techno infused sound that simply makes you want to dance. as a dj she is a regular at cool spots like farbfernseher and impresses here with what she serves up for do not sleep. the original is a chunky, no-nonsense house track with bouncy bass, subtle vocals and the sort of futuristic and soulful pads that help make it really stand out. it s a slick, well produced sound that is sure to make it into many top record bags in the coming weeks and months. the remix from darius is a subtle one that layers in some trance inducing vocals and extra breakdowns so as to really highlight the powerful effect of the drums each and every time they drop.

embracing disco, techno and house music in all its declinations, what ever not introduces now british artist reformed society, project started by house producer harsh puri as a consequence of djing and collecting records since 1998, debuting with a four track old school house ep, optimistic chaos coherently fitting with the italian imprint philosophy. �hope� has that solar, yet dusty groove folding distorted rhythmics and joyful pads around an insistent lead dubby pattern and shimmering synths. �optimistic chaos� is again smooth but lightly gloomy, until a pause intoxicates one�s body and mind filling them with inebriating ambients. �incognito� delivers a deep driving atmosphere here, featuring dogged, crisp drums together with minimalist, yet momentary cosmic motives. for the closing cut �detracid�, the artist cooks up a brew of acid lines with the usual charming synths and vivid hats, building a light sense of tension fired up by the warm, heady sound scapes. each track is similar to the last, stiffening the musical timbre of the label, confirming the producer�s strong artistic identity as a consequence.

a firm favourite in the hot creations camp, jey kurmis is back on board the label following his recent kari ep with another killer release in the form of the not too flabbeh ep. the release features two-standout originals, with a heavy duty re-edit of a third original from label boss jamie jones not too flabbeh features belgium producers nukov & yelmet, creating a bona fide hit! complete with tongue in cheek, catchy vocals, rolling bass, and infectious groove, its a winner! jamie jones steps up again, this time to do a reedit of farno, a four to the floor edgy killer. last up is monkle with its tripped vocals and old school stabs!

not an animal return with their 2nd installment, this time from ess o ess (aka chris stoker and jamie blanco). their original offering, cantillate, isn t an easy beast to identify, being equal parts swamp-rock and techno. imagine you ve stumbled across an ephedrine and moonshine fueled rave in a deep louisiana bayoux in the year 3000, and you re close. add an out-there vocal refrain, and you ll start to appreciate why this is a particularly distinct record. relocate said rave to a some kind of space ship hitting hyperspace, with photon torpedoes fully armed, and you ll suddenly find yourself with the first remix, as created by ene records owner chida.

� * sabato in pineta* is a track written by these 3 guys (cosimo colella, fabio liuzzi, carmine mongelli) after a great party between the woods of their favorite club, sound department. they capture the feelings and the emotions and write this track in few hours. the emotional impact is really strong, with a great work on surreal pads and trippy synths. the listener can be projected into the atmosphere of the club, but this is sure not only a dancefloor oriented work. andres, with his version, give us a great remix, with his usual amazing use of drums and deep and reminiscent pads. fabio della torre finish the ep with an high quality dub version, more raw and intense on the grooves.
